Remnants of walls
Remnants of walls of ancient Indian dwellings, 1.5 miles northwest of Goldenburg, Jornada Experimental Range. Shards indicate historic account of this settlement which was near the commonly traveled route from El Paso to Santa Fe. Shards: Casas Grandes or Chihuahuan polychrome, Chupadero black on white, El Paso polychrome red on brown and Gila polychrome. Pottery from widely separated regions indicates early commerce of Indians. Charred ears of corn have been found in fireplaces. Entire village covering 50 to 100 acres now covered with mesquite sand dunes. Original Photo Number K-368.
