Note the heavy occupation of the soil mass by roots at the lower part of the photo. The occupation of soil mass is undiminished by Tobosa roots from the surface to 36 inches. Primary roots branch to secondary roots from one to four inches in lines at intervals varying from 1/8 to .5 inch along the root. Tertiary system roots 1/16 to 3/4 inch occur at intervals along secondary roots from 1-5 mm. Maximum penetration 71 inches deep. Original photo number 135.
