Panicum enclosure, close-up of roots of Paspalum. On the left, a growing point found 64 inches below the surface. Note sharp, fleshy growing point, the light color of the lower 2 inches, its fleshy appearance, several branches and how the older parts of the root dwindle in size and turn dark. On the right, a section of a typical mature root of Paspalum showing the dark color, small size and the numerous branches. This section of root was taken 24 inches below the surface.
